October 8 –12
This workshop is open to seasoned painters looking to expand their vocabulary and get beyond that “art school nude study” look, as well as absolute beginners excited to try their hand at a subject that has fascinated artists since the cave age.
Working from a live model with mediums of the students’ choosing we will initially explore the range of expressive possibilities the nude offers through variety of short poses. Then we will gradually narrow down to poses with the most resonance, searching for the human drama which moves beyond what the studio context usually offers.
Through a process of carefully considered selection, our aim is to arrive at an image devoid of illustration which is cohesive, self-contained and as expressive of the model as it is of the artist. An image which is distilled yet still has the immediacy, excitement and energy of a sketch.
Arslan received his M.F.A. from Moscow Stroganov College of Art and Design. His work has been exhibited worldwide and is represented in many private and public collections. Among the numerous awards he has been honored with is an Alex J. Ettl grant from the National Sculpture Society.
