Workshop held in sculpture studios in the basement.
From a raw piece of stone, understand the strategies of finding proportion and expression while carving a face with interpretation—from abstract to semi-abstract to realistic. The goal: to complete a sculpture and gain experience in direct carving marble or alabaster.
Jill Burkee, sculptor/draftsman. Coloradan born, attended University of Washington. In 1975 received grant to study in Italy. Returned to NY and studied at Art Students League with Robert Beverly Hale. 1992 served as marble/wood carving instructor at Art Students League. Maintains studios in NY and Pietrasanta. Gives marble carving seminars here and abroad.
Giancarlo Biagi, sculptor/multimedia artist. Italian born, received Maestro d’Arte, Stagio Stagi, Pietrasanta. 1977 granted scholarship to study with Robert Beverly Hale, Art Students League. Based in Manhattan, Eastern Long Island, Pietrasanta. Worked in collaboration with artist, Jill Burkee since 1975.
