Timothy J. Clark’s 2015 solo exhibition at the Loyola University Museum of Art in Chicago featured more than forty of his expressive watercolor paintings. Known for their expansive interiors, urban landscapes, portraits, and figures, Mr. Clark’s paintings were celebrated in March 2014 in a solo exhibition, Masterworks in Watercolor, at the Lois Wagner Fine Arts gallery in New York City. In the winter of 2012–13, his watercolors were seen in a solo exhibition, Timothy J. Clark, at the Laguna Art Museum in Laguna Beach, California. His traveling midcareer retrospective in 2008 was organized by the Pasadena Museum of California Art, then went to the Butler Institute of American Art in Ohio, and the Whistler House Museum of Art in Massachusetts. He has had ten solo museum exhibitions curated from the East to West Coasts.
Mr. Clark’s oil portrait of the Chief Judge of the First Federal District Court was acquired for the permanent collection of the Moakley Federal Courthouse in Boston in June of 2015, and extensive coverage of his solo exhibition at the Loyola University Museum of Art in Chicago was included in both Fine Art Connoisseur and America magazines. His work is in more than twenty museum collections, including the National Portrait Gallery, the Farnsworth Art Museum in Maine, and the Butler Museum of American Art, and is also featured in the book Timothy J. Clark by Stern and Farrington (Pomegranate Communications, 2008).
Mr. Clark has taught at the National Academy School in New York City and lectured at the Yale University School of Architecture’s graduate program in Rome, Italy. A graduate of the Chouinard Art Institute and the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), Mr. Clark paints in New York City; West Bath, Maine; and Capistrano Beach, California.
