Ellen Eagle holds a B.F.A. with Distinction in drawing from the California College of Arts and Crafts. She also took Daniel Greene’s workshop and studied with Michael Burban at The Art Students League. Her primary study has been with Harvey Dinnerstein, for whom she was class assistant at The League.
Ms. Eagle’s work is represented by Forum Gallery (New York), where her pastel paintings were introduced in a solo exhibition in 2002. This was followed by solo exhibitions at the Lyme Academy College of Fine Arts, Concordia College, and Tomasulo Gallery (Cranford, New Jersey). In 2011–12, Ms. Eagle exhibited twenty pastel paintings in a two-person traveling exhibit in China. She returned to China in 2017 to teach art teachers to work with pastels. Her work has been shown in such venues as the National Academy Museum, Frye Art Museum, New Jersey State Museum, Long Beach Museum of Art, Staten Island Museum, Albright Knox Gallery, Arkansas Art Center, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Baker Museum, and the Lingnan Museum of Fine Arts in China.
Her work has been reproduced in The New York Times, The Newark Star-Ledger, Portrait Signature Magazine, American Artist magazine (December 2004, October 2008, and November 2010 respectively); Pratique des Arts (July 2010, December 2012); The Pastel Journal, including the June 2006 cover article, and again in 2010; and The Artist’s Magazine (April 2011). Her work was also cited in American Arts Quarterly (fall 2007, winter 2011, and winter 2017). Her pastel paintings were reproduced in Classical Drawing Atelier by Juliette Aristedes (Watson-Guptill); and in James L. McElhinney's The Visual Language of Drawing, Classical Life Drawing Studio, and Art Students League of New York on Painting, which also includes her essays. Richard Halstead’s article, “The Quiet Power of Ellen Eagle” was published in Fine Art Connoisseur, January 2016 issue.
Ms. Eagle's articles, “The Age of Enlightenment Has Dawned on Fifth Avenue,” “Painting Miss Leonard,” “Composing A Life,” and “An Elegant Unrest” have been published in LINEA: The Journal of the Art Students League. Other publication listings include International Artist Magazine (February/March 2014); Artists and Illustrators (U.K., September 2013); Design New Jersey (August/September 2013); and Drawing Magazine (Summer 2013). Her book, Pastel Painting Atelier, was published by Watson-Guptill in April 2013.
Ms. Eagle is the recipient of many awards and grants. Her pastel paintings are in private and public collections throughout North America and China.
