Class Description: In this workshop we will explore how to create a beautifully realized portrait by using graphite and charcoal on toned paper. Using direct observation of the model, we will explore how to create a drawing that looks dynamic and three-dimensional. Breaking down the process into logical steps, we will learn how to achieve a believable likeness with confidence. We will discover that by using the paper as our midtone, we can quickly achieve a powerful range of values. We will carefully explore the differing qualities of light and shadow as well as the importance of edges and line. Using these techniques, we will learn to sharpen our observation and create portrait drawings that come alive
Eleanor Adam will be instructing a Special ‘Four Fridays’ Class: Creating Portraits on Toned Paper.
