In this innovative workshop, students will learn to apply the ancient Japanese technique of origami, or paper folding, to the creation of highly individualized paintings in a contemporary style. Joseph Albers, the great 20th century painter and father of modern color theory and minimalism, taught origami as a tool for understanding geometry, materiality, and structure. Based on similar principles, students in this workshop will, using paper, learn to create distinctive original paintings that incorporate combined, built-up, and shaped surfaces.
