Still life offers excellent opportunities for observing the surprising nature of light and the complexity of color. Through a series of exercises (short and long still life paintings) students will hone their perceptual skills and learn to translate these into paint. We will also discuss form, space and look at various great still life painters (Chardin, Cezanne, Morandi) as well as many contemporary painters. The focus however is seeing color in a new and deeper way through the experience of still life painting.
