This course will have a creative and spirited approach to figure drawing and painting. We will start with the model and go beyond the human form to investigate color, composition, space, and movement.

Group and individual critiques will be an integral part of the course.

The students will also be encouraged to view specific works of art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art outside of class time to enhance their understanding of historical work.

About the Instructor

Artist Adrienne Farb will lead the workshop. After spending thirty years living and exhibiting in Paris, Farb now works in both Paris and New York. She continues to exhibit her work in Paris, notably at the Galerie Paul Prouté. With a background in art history and coming from a family of artists, looking and learning from historical work has always been an important part of Farb’s painting practice. Before teaching at Art Students League, Farb taught the adult education courses at l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts à Paris as well as at different American universities in Paris.
