About the Vytlacil Campus

In 1995, the Art Students League of New York received generous gifts of property and funding from the family of the late artist and League instructor Vaclav Vytlacil for the establishment of the Art Students League's Vytlacil Campus.

Located in historic Sparkill, New York, the Vytlacil Campus is an integral part the Art Students League. The Vytlacil Campus provides education and support to working artists in the studio-based, atelier tradition and to experiment and explore different areas of art making in its spacious and pastoral setting. The campus is a meeting place, forum and residency for outstanding students and practicing artists from around the world.

The facilities include a restored residence and barn of Vaclav Vytlacil, a fine example of Victorian/Gothic architecture. The studios include the Trudy & Henry Gillette north lit painting barn, the newly built sculpture studio which includes a foundry, metal forging and welding facilities, a large walk-in kiln and a complete studio to pursue all sculptural endeavors.

The Elizabeth Sullivan Gallery on the first floor of Vytlacil’s main house offers a rotation of exhibitions of faculty members, students and guest artists. A full range of artistic expression is presented, from painting and drawing to video art and monumental installations.

The beautiful property is on 15 acres of wooded grounds near the west bank of the Hudson River, south of the Tappan Zee Bridge, and less than an hour's drive from Manhattan.
