The Art Students League of New York is a public charity, exempt from income tax under 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue code. Gifts and bequests to the League are deductible for income, gift and estate tax purposes to the extent provided by law.

Bequests have played an important role in the success and growth of the Art Students League. A gift, either during your lifetime or through your will, enables the League to continue to be one of the most important art schools in the world. The Art Students League asks members and friends to support its Building and Development Fund Drive. The League building, originally finished in 1892, is in continual need of renovation. Contributions to the Building Fund will enable us to keep tuition low while we make necessary repairs to the building and renovations. Please give generously in support of this unique institution ö the preeminent atelier-based studio school of the visual arts.
Can I determine how my gift will be used?
We work with donors to determine how best to use their gifts.
Will any portion of my gift be used for organizational costs?
Five percent of scholarship gifts are used to cover the administrative cost. This cost includes hiring judges for the merit competitions, the scholarship coordinator, and bookkeeper.
Can I work with the League to develop a special use for my gift, such as a scholarship or an opportunity to study abroad?
Yes.
Can I donate important works of art to the League for its permanent collection?
The Permanent Collection is limited to works by former teachers and to outstanding works by students selected annually by the Board of Control. Any proposed gift of a work MUST be reviewed and approved by the Board of Control, the Executive Director and the Curator of the Permanent Collection.
Are there any designations of funding levels to publicly distinguish large gifts?
Yes, gifts above $1,000 will be published in the League's catalog. All other gifts are published periodically in the Bulletin (a League newsletter) and posted on our Bulletin Board.
