Susan Shatter
Techniques in Watercolor Painting

Susan Shatter studied at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture before receiving a B.F.A. from Pratt Institute and an M.F.A. from Boston University. She exhibited at the Fischbach Gallery in New York from 1972 to 1999. She is currently represented by the DFN Gallery, New York City.

Ms. Shatterâs work is found in many public and private collections including the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; the Art Institute of Chicago; the Smithsonian American Art Museum, Washington, D.C., and the National Academy of Design. She is President of the National Academy and has served on the Board of Governors of the Skowhegan School since 1979.

Among her awards are a fellowship from the Radcliffe Institute and grants from the Massachusetts Creative Artists, the National Endowment for the Arts and the Yaddo Corporation. In 1999 and 2003, she received a Childe Hassam Purchase Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. She received a Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant in 2004.
