New Techniques in Water Media

"For this class, I would like students to look at water-medium painting with a different vision. It has been seen in a certain way for a long time. Can we turn it around? Perhaps water-medium painting has another face, which we may just have to discover by abandoning something, or by constructing something...
"For me, for my vagaries of watercolor, the sensitivity, delicacy and spontaneity are compellingly opposed by the heavy, multiple coats of glazing and the physical manipulation on the surface. In addition to that, the structural images (often they are pylons of steel) and the use of heavy colors, the density of them...they become not so transparent, not so spontaneous, not so ãwatercolorä anymore. Rather, they are stark, haunting. They are the other and substantial face of water-medium painting."
Mr. Ching-Bor came to New York City six years ago from Australia. He has held solo exhibitions at the Butler Institute of American Art, the Spanierman Gallery and at galleries throughout Europe. He has also participated in group exhibitions at the Parrish Art Museum, the Springfield Art Museum, and the Allentown Art Museum, among others.
