Painting, Drawing, Design, Color

Frank Mason is concerned with the illusion of subject matter in space and
atmosphere, revealed through light. He studied at the Art Students League with Frank
Vincent Dumond.
Mr. Masonās canvases on the life of St. Anthony of Padua may be seen in Venice
in the Church of San Giovanni di Malta. In recognition of these paintings, the Sovereign
Military Order of the Knights of St. John of Malta bestowed upon Mr. Mason La Croce
alMerito, first class.
In 1999, he received, from the Newington-Cropsey Foundation, the Second
Annual Newington-Cropsey Award for Excellence in the Arts, an award created to
recognize Americans who have made a meaningful contribution to the cultural
enrichment of our nation through their work. Also in 1999, he was the recipient of an
Arthur Ross Award from Classical America in recognition of his major contribution to
mural painting in the classical tradition. In May 2000, he received the Salmagundi Club
Medal of Honor, and in May 2002, he received the Benjamin West Clinedinst Memorial
Award from the Artistsā Fellowship, New York City.
Among his many portraits are those of Prince Giacchino Colonna of Venice,
Bishop Austin Pardue, John Cardinal Wright, Governor Averell Harriman, Col. Earl
ćRedä Blaik of West Point Military Academy and Dr. Christian J. Lambertson, John
Morgan Building, University of Pennslyvania, Philadelphia.
His Resurrection may be seen at St. Patrickās Old Cathedral, New York City. In
1980, he completed three murals on the naval history of Saudi Arabia for the King Faisal
Naval Academy in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia. In 1986, his corporate mural, And the Gods
Smiled on These, was installed in Houston, Texas. In 1990, he received a Purchase Award from the
American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters.
Mr. Mason is represented in many museum collections. He is a member of the
National Academy of Design, the American Artists Professional League, the Salmagundi
Club, the National Society of Mural Painters, Audubon Artists, Allied Artists of America,
the Hudson Valley Art Association and the Royal Society of the Arts.
