It must be considered that there is nothing more difficult to carry out, nor more doubtful of success, nor more dangerous to handle, than to initiate a new order of things.
— Niccolo Machiavelli

Primavera, the rites of a Tuscan spring

It is spring in Florence, the bedrock of the Renaissance, where it all happened: Giotto, Donatello, Brunelleschi, Fra Angelico, and Michelangelo. The Florentine school affected all of Europe. The revival of the Greek aesthetics of natural beauty is said to have catapulted us into the modern world, creating one of the most beautiful cities in the world. They were great architects, artists and writers. Opera was born from that Renaissance. There is inspiration everywhere. En plein air, we will mine the atmosphere of the waters of the Arno surrounded by markets, piazzas, gardens and the monuments of the Renaissance. We will translate these cityscapes into unique experiences in watercolor and peruse masterpieces of the Western world housed in cathedrals and museums. We will go beyond the stones seeking the flesh of the city and the road less traveled. View a slide show of photos from an earlier Florence workshop.
