An extraordinary 30-foot-long Scroll for Japan, hand-painted by former Vytlacil resident Jave Yoshimoto in the Japanese style of ukiyo-e woodblock prints, is available for sale in a variety of sizes. Eighty-percent of all proceeds will go toward on-the-ground support of survivors in the area hit hardest by the March 11, 2011 earthquake/tsunami in northern Japan. The remaining twenty-percent will be split evenly to fund Vyt scholarships and actual operation/administration costs.
In describing the origin of the project, Mr. Yoshimoto said, “To combat social amnesia in the internet age, I wanted to create a lasting memorial that would long honor the victims and survivors of the Tohoku earthquake.” Read more about Scroll for Japan. |
