Free and open to the public, the League's Phyllis Harriman Mason Gallery presents a broad range of exhibitions, lectures, and other programming attended by 30,000 people each year. The Gallery regularly exhibits the work of current students and instructors, as well as work that explores the League’s history and other issues in contemporary art.

The League’s Permanent Collection includes nearly 2,000 pieces created by students and instructors, and other works donated by benefactors.  Be sure to visit our Online Gallery to see more work by League artists.

Previous Shows

Previous shows organized by Curator Pam Koob have included the annual Grant Winners ExhibitionWill Barnet and the Art Students League, WHY THE NUDE? Contemporary Approaches (October 2006) with works by Joan Semmel, Philip Pearlstein, Will Cotton and others; Out There (October 2007),works in non-traditional media by Chakaia Booker, Gary Hill, Ursula Von Rydingsvard and others; Art from Anxious Times (October 2008), with works by Edward Burtynsky, Joan Fontcuberta, Emily Jacir, David Opdyke, and others; and Drawing Lessons: Early Academic Drawings from The Art Students League of New York (October 2009 at the League and March-April 2010 at O’Kane Gallery, University of Houston-Downtown, Houston, Texas.)

By donating to the League's gallery you can help 

  • Conserve and restore the League’s permanent collection, including pieces in the Drawing Lessons  exhibition.
  • Fund a new initiative to photograph and display images online of the permanent collection, student concours, and other exhibits.
  • Build a fund for acquisitions of pieces by such luminaries as Thomas Hart Benton and Jackson Pollock not currently represented in the collection.
