Steven Walker is a freelance artist with a B.F.A. degree in Comics Illustration from the School of Visual Arts. Mr. Walker has an eclectic portfolio of work and has published with companies such as Image Comics. He cites creators Walt Simonson and Jamal Igle as influences.
Mr. Walker is currently developing The Sons of Liberty, a graphic novel series for Random House Books. When not pushing lead at his drawing table, he can be found voraciously scribbling voluptuous burlesque models at Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School, of which he is a founding member.
Mr. Walker’s Sunday morning class is three hours of figure drawing, using one model with multiple poses. Students learn how to properly draw the figure through focusing on proportion, weight, balance, line, and light and shadow.
In the afternoon class, the importance of good visual storytelling will be emphasized above all else. Students will explore the best ways to convey their stories by using various illustration techniques and learning the language of comics. The class will cover everything from perspective to dynamic figure drawing.
