Board of Control Voting Information
Shortly, Members will be receiving the Annual Report mailing.
Some Members will be receiving (in the mail) voting information and Ballots for the Election of the 2014 Board of Control with their Annual Report. (Those who were already eligible (from voting in recent years), and those who answered the Query with the postcard or the e-link, are the ones who will be receiving Ballots.)
The following voting information is included with the mailing but bears repeating:
- Read the voting directions carefully. There are choices—ticking all the boxes is not correct.
Ballots completed incorrectly are nullified.
- Do not mail, fax or deliver the Ballot to The Art Students League.
- Do mail your ballot in the return envelope provided, addressed to our CPA:
The Art Students League of New York
c/o Manger & Co.
295 Madison Ave Suite 901
New York, NY 10164-4374
Or, you may fax your ballot to Manger & Company at (212) 697-3511.
- Deadline: Your Ballot must be signed, dated and received by Manger & Company by December 2, 2013 in order to cast a valid vote. We have had Ballots arrive beyond the deadline and they are nullified.
NOTE: If you receive the Annual Report without a ballot and you wish to vote, OR if you do not receive the Annual Report (with or without a Ballot), contact Xanthe Ellis via e-mail only: email@example.com.
Member Active / Inactive Voting Status
As many have asked, this voting status does not affect your Membership status. Some Members already have active voting status. Those that do not have been sent a letter. For those who have chosen to ‘re-establish active voting’, it means that you will receive a Ballot* for this year’s BoC election—which you probably have not received in recent years.
But, it also means that to retain this ‘active voting status’, you must either, return (completed) that yearly Ballot, OR attend one of the three (3) yearly Member Meetings—October, December, April. Not doing one of the above is what caused your ‘voting status’ to become inactive. Not doing one of the above – in future, will result in your ‘voting status’ to again become inactive.
*Note: Keeping your address and other contact information up-to-date is crucial to our being able to mail this Ballot to you. Please use the Member Information UPDATE FORM whenever you have any changes to make.
There are currently more than 3,000 active members of the Art Students League. League members are entitled to a number of benefits and privileges. To name a few, all members have: the right to vote and voice opinions at members' meetings; the right to vote and run for the Board of Control; free access to the late afternoon Life Sketch Classes during the Regular Session; and free mailings of some League publications.
The League does not have current contact information for many of our Members who are not current students. To help us keep our files up-to-date and in-touch, please complete our Member Information UPDATE FORM. Once you SUBMIT the form, it will automatically be e-mailed to the Membership Department.

Membership Status Categories
- Regular Member vs. Life Member
After ten years of active membership (upon the eleventh payment of dues) a member will be considered a Life Member of the Art Students League, entitling the member to all the privileges of membership—without any annual dues.
The membership year runs from from September 1 through August 31.
Annual Membership renewal payments, currently $35, are due August 31st of each year, regardless of the date of your initial payment. Please note that membership dues are not the same as the annual student registration fee.
- Lapsed & Dropped Members
Members who do not renew by August 31st become “lapsed." Failure to renew within twelve months results in a member being “dropped.” A dropped member is ineligible for membership benefits and must apply to the Board of Control for reinstatement.
